Book Bunch took a trip to Highgate Cemetery last week. We had a guided tour of the West Side which was fabulous. We had a terrific volunteer guide, Russ, who took us round. Here are some of the highlights:
This is looking back to the entrance of the West Side.
The entrance to the Egyptian Avenue.
The circle of Lebanon
The final resting place of (Marguerite) Radclyffe Hall, author of The Well of Loneliness.
Tom Sayers was a Victorian bare-knuckle prize fighter. His dog, Lion, was chief mourner. At the time of his death Tom was estranged from his wife.
I don't know who Rosilla Burt was but she sounds a character :-).
The family of Dante Gabriel and Christina Rossetti.
Fans of Douglas Adams leave pens in front of his headstone.
The discrete, understated headstone of Karl Marx.
Opposite Herbert Spencer (Marx and Spencer - tee hee)
The last word ;-)

Apparently, Jim Stanford did not have any connection with Penguin Books his family just liked the idea of the headstone.

The grave of George Eliot. Our book for the month was Silas Marner.
