San Francisco - Literary Connections

Mark and I checked out the City Lights Bookstore.  This establishment is famous in the literary world as they agreed to publish Alan Ginsberg's Howl and Other Poems; Howl went on to become the subject of an obscenity trial.

Apparently, after taking peyote Allen Ginsberg had a vision in which the Sir Francis Drake Hotel and the Medical Arts buildings transform into the image of the ancient Phoenician god Moloch.  This provided the inspiration for Howl.

Mark and I also visited John`s Grill for a meal (excellent steaks, by the way!) where Dashiell Hammett wrote parts of The Maltese Falcon, allegedly.
