Mark and I have heard a lot about this hotel and restaurant since we moved to Tistrup but have never actually managed to go there. We finally got our act together this weekend and went over there. It has an excellent reputation and is considered well worthy of a Michelin star but the Michelin gurus only go to Copenhagen as the rest of Denmark is considered inaccessible for a weekend trip! Bless!!
Mark and I got ourselves togged up and headed over there:
The food was amazing. Lots of local Danish produce beautifully prepared. The chef, Paul Cunningham, is an Essex boy who had a restaurant in Copenhagen but then moved to Jutland. He was very entertaining and all the staff were attentive and knowledgeable and all those who chatted with us spoke excellent English. The set menu was fabulous:
I can only wonder at the inability of Michelin personnel to fly direct from Paris to Billund and then either get a taxi ride or hire a car for the 45 minute drive to this place. We have tried out a couple of the restaurants in Copenhagen that have been awarded a Michelin star and this place is considerably better. But I suppose I should be grateful. The acquisition of a Michelin star would probably make it very difficult to get a table here and double the price! All I can say is that this place not only lives up to expectations but exceeds them by quite a considerably margin.
