Housework on Ice

The International Ladies Curling Championship was held in Esbjerg last week.  Apart from a brief viewing session several years ago when the Scottish Ladies Curling Team won a gold medal at the winter Olympics, curling has rather passed me by as a sport.  Curling, for the uninitiated (and no doubt the uninterested and unimpressed <g>), is a sport 'where players  slide stones across a sheet of ice towards a target area.' (Wikipedia)  Apparently it is related to bowls, boule and shuffleboard (Wikipedia again).  It is often known as 'chess on ice'.  Mark and I decided that we should go and check out the Championships as we had never been to a curling match(??) before.

8 teams were playing over four lanes; Denmark vs Canada (5-4) , Germany vs China (2-8, Germany actually retired), Norway vs the Czech Republic (tied by the time we left and was going on to a 'decider' - ice off perhaps?) and the game we went to see,  Sweden vs Scotland.  The Scots got off to a good start but sadly lost 5-3.  I can't say I actually understood what was going on but it was a bit of a laugh.  But were were totally underdressed; it was freezing.  Something to do with the ice I believe :-).

The Swedes went on to win the gold medal, beating Canada in the final.  China beat the Danes to the bronze medal.

  1. You were taking the photos to keep warm, weren't you? The blurry ones are where you got shivery - I can tell!

Now you can confess that you thought the Curling World Championship was something to do with hairdressing. I won't tell anyone!!

Have you thought of Photoshopping Ollie on to some of the stones as they slide along the ice?
